About us
KuuRet 55+ team – history and today
The basic group was formed four years ago for the EU-supported TraVEL AGEnts project (2006-2008). The issues of the project were travelling, voluntary work and life long learning. The target group was senior citizens and those approaching that age interested in the above issues.
During the project some members of the group went to Italy and Portugal on so called test trips. Also some members of the group participated in the final meeting in Brussels.
The present name Kuuret 55+ was given to the group late 2009. Approximately 40-50 persons have participated in the various activities of our group.
Even after the TraVEL AGEnts project ended we have had contact with almost all the partners of the project. Our partners then were from Italy, Greece, Cypros, Portugal, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Tzeck Republic and Estonia.
Already during the project we decided to test the aptitude of the programs by making a self-paid trip to Poland in spring 2008. After that we have made trips to Estonia, Greece, Slovakia and Portugal. Reciprocally we have offered programs to our partners to visit Finland. In 2009-2010 we have hosted small group from Greece, Denmark, Portugal and Cyprus. Our offer for a visit to Finland is still valid. Please see separate page: “Come to Finland”.
We also make day trips in Finland – mostly to the surrounding areas – both outdoor destinations and to museums etc. The Christmas parties have been popular.
Projects
We have applied for support from the European Union. Our application in 2009 fell through. We tried again in 2010 and were successful. We now have two projects going on. For further details please see the page Projects in 2010-2012.
